Exclusive | “So many people say they could see me as a rockette”: inside the auditions, while the dear Kickline of Radio City celebrates 100 years

On Tuesday morning, while most of New York city rushed to work, more than 1,000 eager dancers, from 45 states and 34 countries, took the 50th Street sidewalk while aligned outside the Radio City Music Hall to make a site coveted at the famous Kickline at the centenary.

Addison Brill, 18, was one of the many ambitious hopeful ones who traveled thousands of miles of Michigan to show his kicks and his drins, the iconic Rockette Posada, to the professionals.

“I have been counting over the years until I could make an audition, so it is really incredible to be here, especially that it is the centenary,” the Post said.

For others like Carol Gois, 20, Brazil, was his second attempt.

“I think last year it was not such a great reality for me,” he said. “It was another idea.”

After reaching Rockette’s error, Gois returned to hearing again this year, hearing a little stronger and a little less nervous, knowing what to wait for this time.

“So many people told me they could see me like a rock,” he added. “So [last year] It was just a test to see if this was something I wanted to pursue. “”

The post attended on the 1st of the Rockettes’s open auditions, where hundreds of dancers carrying Leotard dragged the lobby, crunchy and some descending dog positions before dividing into groups to learn the audition choreography.

They all learned a combination of short dance, and then groups of women moved with excitement from the basement of Radio City to the small rehearsal room to the large room to show their skill to rockettes judges, assistants and captains.

Although everyone was hoping to emphasize, the director and choreographer Julie Branam, in fact, look for the outstanding ones who can combine.

In fact, he is looking for dancers who know how to act exactly as the person next to him, after all, synchronization and precision are those who have made the Radio City Gals so iconic during the last century.

“They [the auditionees] Might think they seem better to do it in a certain way. But, being a rockette, you have to do it in the way we asked. So this is part of the concert, and I usually say pieces of choreography in the first cut, “said Branam.

Although the dancers must have a “solid and solid ballet technical base”, Branam and his team are looking for a scholar who is paying attention.

“I’m looking for someone who has style and listening to the correction,” Branam admitted. “I like a smart dancer focused on what we are saying on the front of the room.”

Although there are 42 rockets for each of the two spectacular Christmas distributions, the number of open kickline points varies each season. Whether the dancers were sent home or passed in front of the Final Audition Round on Thursday, some will have the opportunity to participate in the Conservatory’s summer programs and only invited preparatory.

But the reality is that most are cutting off. About 4% -7% of dancers do so during the three days.

Both Brill and Gois got the boot in the first round, but despite their disappointment, they maintained their composition and were in a good mood when they left Radio City.

“It was a more recent dance style, I learned it 72 hours ago, so I was hoping to find out -and put the best foot,” said Brill, 18.

“Next year, I will really delve into the technique and style to re -audit.”

Surprisingly, passing through the first lap, he did not put many of the dancers because they knew they still had to show the advantages that they are worthy of joining the Leggy dance troop.

Nina Nuñez, 21, was in shock when she heard her number called to continue the audition process. She arrived on the second day, but she cut off on day 2.
